The recent seminar (17 May 2023) on “Exploring the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Higher Education: Opportunities, Challenges, and Ethics” was a resounding success, receiving an overwhelming positive response from participants. The event, co-hosted by the Centre for Teaching and Learning (E-Learning Section), School of Business, and Library drew more than 73 participants from both online and physical settings.
The seminar featured distinguished speakers, including Mr. Dick CHAN, and Mr. Kelvin WAN, who provided an enlightening overview of ChatGPT and its alternatives, as well as AI detection tools. Mr. Michael CHENG, the University Librarian, shared valuable insights on the practical application of AI-assisted teaching, learning, and research in higher education. The seminar also included a thought-provoking panel discussion, expertly moderated by Prof. Bradley BARNES, Dean of the School of Business. The panelists, Prof. Lianxi ZHOU and Mr Roy YING delved into various topics, such as the ethical considerations, challenges, and opportunities of integrating generative AI in higher education.
The dynamic and interactive nature of the seminar fostered engaging discussions, allowing participants to exchange ideas and gain a deeper understanding of the potential implications of generative AI in the field of higher education. Attendees greatly appreciated the diverse perspectives shared by the speakers and panelists, as well as the valuable facilitation provided by the organizers.
