SMALL PRIVATE ONLINE Courses (SPOCs)

The Digital Learning Section of HSUHK’s Centre for Teaching and Learning is committed to delivering innovative, high-quality e‑learning solutions. In partnership with ITSC, we’ve created over 25 SPOCs to make top-tier education accessible to diverse learners. Our SPOCs foster lifelong learning and support learners’ personal and professional growth.

We are currently running two platforms for internal courses during the migration period, and one platform for public access:

HSUHK OpenLearn

HSUHK OpenLearn is our new Moodle-based MOOC platform with SSO login, advanced analytics, interactive tools, AI Chatbot and MORE! Designed for ease of use, it supports updated modules for students. Courses will gradually migrate from edX to OpenLearn, offering a more integrated and enhanced learning experience for both staff and students.

Flexible layout Design

OpenLearn empowers educators with flexible formatting, allowing you to design visually appealing and engaging course pages. Easily integrate text, images, videos, tables, and URLs to build your ideal learning environment. This freedom ensures you can arrange content exactly as you wish.

Crucially, OpenLearn’s responsive design means your carefully crafted layout will adapt seamlessly to any device – desktop, tablet, or smartphone – without distorting the format, ensuring a consistent experience for all learners.

learners BEHAVIOR TRACKING

OpenLearn offers the log function which meticulously records every action taken within OpenLearn Platform, providing a comprehensive audit trail of all user activity. Each log entry captures crucial data points, including the date and time of the action, the learner’s name, the specific action performed, and a description of that action. Essentially, OpenLearn logs provide a granular, click-by-click record of all interactions within a course.

HSUHK Openedx

Launched in 2014, HSUHK OpenEdX is a legacy MOOC platform exclusively available to HSUHK staff and students. Built on the OpenEdX system, it offers a range of self-paced online courses delivered by HSUHK’s experienced faculty. This platform will be gradually phased out by Academic Year 2025/26 as courses migrate to the new OpenLearn system.

Computer Ethics and Copyright

  • Compulsory workshop for IT Proficiency Test
  • Covers computer ethics and copyright
  • Students learn to analyze copyright issues and identify cyberbullying

GAP: Grammar Awareness Platform
